Daily vs. Monthly Contacts: A Guide

There are two categories of contact lenses: daily disposable and monthly. Which one is right for you? Read on as our optometrist at Six One Six Vision Center shares a quick guide.

Daily Contact Lenses. Some people find daily contact lenses more comfortable to wear and more convenient too. With dailies, you won’t need to clean the lenses every day–you simply throw them away (or return them to our office for recycling) after a single use. Since you only wear daily lenses once, they are less likely to accumulate germs that could cause infection.

These are highly recommended for those who have allergies or dry eyes, also for new contact lens wearers and younger individuals. People who tend to damage or lose their contacts may also find this option more appealing.

Monthly Contact Lenses. These are more affordable than daily disposables, but they require more effort. You need to clean them every time you use them to avoid infection, and they also need to be stored properly. One advantage is that they are more environmentally friendly because you’ll only wear 12 pairs yearly, resulting in less waste than daily disposables.

If you switch between glasses and contacts multiple times a day, you may find monthly contact lenses more practical. Unlike disposable lenses that must be discarded after a single use, these lenses can be cleaned and reused for a month. For safer and more pleasant wear, make sure to always follow the recommendations of your eye doctor.
