How Come My New Glasses Don’t Feel Comfortable to Wear?

Buying a new pair of eyeglasses can be exciting and fun. But if you notice some discomfort as you wear them, such as eye strain, nose marks, or even headaches, then they may not be fitting correctly. Our resident eye doctor at Six One Six Vision Center explains what you need to look for:

The Common Signs

  • Pinching – Eyeglasses typically sit on top of the nose. Metal frames come with nose pads that are meant to distribute the weight. But if they’re not set properly, they can leave marks and cause painful pinching.
  • Prints Left By the Nose Pad – These are the little indentations that appear on your face when you take off your glasses and can be a bit painful if you’ve worn them throughout the day.
  • Looseness – If your eyeglasses come off when you do a double-take, that means they’re too loose around your ears. This can be remedied by having an optician bend the temple arms slightly or getting smaller frames.
  • Pain at the Back of Your Head – This can happen if your eyeglasses are too small for your head or aren’t correctly adjusted. If it’s too tight, it can affect blood circulation and cause headaches. Make sure to visit a trusted eye center where an optician can help you pick the right frame for your size!
