The Best Practices for Infection-Free Contact Lenses

Most people wear their contact lenses for many hours at a time. That’s why it’s so important to ensure your lenses are always free of bacteria. Fortunately, keeping your contacts germ-free is easy if you follow your eye care specialist’s simple instructions.

Use an Approved Cleaning Solution

Always wash your lenses with a medically approved contact lens solution. Tap water or homemade cleaning solutions may contain germs that could cause an infection.

Rub With Clean Hands

Dirt stuck in your contact lens can’t be removed by simple soaking. Your eye doctor recommends gently rubbing the lens between your fingers to remove germs. Before doing so, wash your hands thoroughly.

Replace Your Lenses on Time

Never wear your lenses longer than recommended. Some lenses must be replaced daily, while others can be worn for several weeks or months. Failure to replace your lenses on time can increase the risk of infection.

Remove Lenses Before Bed

Never fall asleep before removing your contact lenses. Your eyes need a break overnight. Failing to remove your lenses before bed can lead to irritation and infection.
