How Often Does Your Child Need an Eye Exam?

Having good visual health is essential to your child’s learning and social development. Poor eyesight can inhibit your child’s ability to perform basic school tasks, such as reading and writing. Having a short attention span is also linked to impaired vision. To prepare your child for school, schedule a comprehensive eye exam for them with an optometrist.

In today’s post, Six One Six Vision Center discusses how often a child needs an eye checkup.

Importance of Pediatric Eye Exams

Learning-related vision problems may interfere with your child’s success in school. A recent study showed that about 35% of preschoolers in the country have sigificant nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism.

To avoid the consequences of these vision problems, bring your child to an eye doctor for a regular pediatric vision exam. They will conduct tests to evaluate your child’s visual acuity and focusing skills.

How Often Your Child Needs to Visit an Eye Specialist

Ideally, infants should have their first eye exam between the ages of six months to one year. This should be followed by another eye exam when they reach the age of three, with additional eye exams yearly thereafter starting at five years old even if the child does not need vision correction.

Turn to Six One Six Vision Center for your child’s eye care needs. Apart from comprehensive eye exams, we also offer high-quality prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses to help correct different eye conditions.
